On Wednesday, May 18, the Kingsley High School staff celebrated student achievement by awarding honors to hundreds of top students, including those on the the honor roll and with high GPAs, plus those with outstanding achievement in athletics, after school activities, and electives.
Athletes of the Year
Male Senior Athlete of the Year: Gage Hessem
A 12-season athlete, earning 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, and Track & Field
In basketball, he was 2-time 2nd Team All Northwest Conference performer
In track he earned All Northwest Conference honors 3 times and was All Region in Track & Field twice
He currently owns the Kingsley High School record in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 6 inches earlier this season
According to his coaches, he is an incredibly gifted multi-sport athlete who had the ability to take over a game at any moment
This young man plans to run track at Ferris State University next year where he is undecided on major
Female Senior Athlete of the Year: Coral Bott
A 12-sesaon athlete, earning 10 varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, and track
In volleyball she was 2nd team All Northwest Conference her junior year, and 1st team ALL NWC as a senior
In Basketball, she earned honorable mention All NWC as a sophomore, 2nd Team ALL NWC as a junior, and was a 1st team selection as a senior.
According to her coaches, she is a great example of a 3-sport student athlete who worked hard every day, played to win, and was a great teammate
She will be attending Alpena Community College next fall where she plans to study business and Cosmetology

Scholarship Winners
Larson Endowment $2500
The Wilfred and Joan Larson Endowment donated $10,000 to be divided between four graduating seniors to receive scholarships of $2,500 each to be used for postsecondary expenses. These four students were chosen based on their academic achievements, financial need, and community involvement. We can’t wait to see all they will accomplish. The next two $500 scholarships require that applicants must be in the band and currently accepted to a 2 or 4 year college with a current GPA of 3.0 The recipients of the Robert Taylor and Linda & Glenn Guldner scholarships are:

This is a $500 merit scholarship based on three qualities: scholarship, leadership, and character. The recipient is:

Hill Sisters’ Scholarship $500
Gladys and Hullda Hill were two sisters who lived in Kingsley and we are told they were unable to attend school. In their final years they donated their estate to the betterment of Kingsley children. This not only included nearly a square mile of land used by our science departments, but also a scholarship to further a deserving student's education.

For the first time, the band boosters were able to offer scholarships to graduating members of the band. Three students have been selected to receive $500 scholarships as they continue in music beyond high school.
