Kingsley High School senior Nathan Peters is shooting for the stars. The aspiring aerospace engineer hopes to work on rockets one day, a dream that's been years in the making.
"Growing up, I loved watching space videos and videos about rockets. What piqued my interest the most was the complexity of the things that have to be engineered to go into space, like rockets are made of millions and millions of individual parts, that seems so crazy to me!"
Nathan is currently an engineering academy student at the Career Tech Center in Traverse City, where, lately, he's been disassembling an engine and piecing it all back together using a 3D model.
After graduation, he hopes to attend Michigan Tech to continue his engineering education.
"I went up there for two engineering summer camps that were a week long and I got to stay in the dorms. I love the campus, the food, and the atmosphere," said Nathan.
Nathan is a high-achieving student and recently earned an impressive 1480 on his SAT, a feat he achieved with the help of his KHS teachers.
"I took Ms. Olenchek's [test prep] course on a Saturday and it introduced me to the whole concept of studying for the SAT. I then took some more weekend courses," said Nathan.
"I would say there are definitely many exemplary teachers; Ms. Olenchek and Mrs. Lewis really help to build an academic culture at this school and are ready to help students push. I really attribute that as helping me a lot as those teachers really did push me, so I want to thank them."
Congratulations, Nathan, on all of your successes!
